Here We Are Again

Here we are again today!  We thought you might enjoy a little peek at our display gardens.

 It has been a bit tough keeping our gardens the past couple of years because of the drought and extreme heat but thankfully with hard work and allowances from the city to water (because it is our business), we have been able to keep them nice.

 We like to use a good fertilizer on our gardens to keep them blooming all season long.  Most people forget to give enough water and fertilizer.  Those are the keys to keeping your plants blooming and beautiful.

 Be sure to vary your textures when you plant your beds.  It adds interest to the bed.

 It is also a great idea to add a bit of junk to your beds.  It can be any style you like.  We use junk that gives our beds a nice country style such as the barrels.

Hello There

Hello, Everyone!
It has been a while since we posted here at Feed Barn and we apologize for that.  We plan to be better about that from now on and in fact you will probably be seeing some changes happening very soon here at our blog as we update a few things.

In The meantime we want to update you on what is happening currently.  Because of the drought we have added to our services...if you have flowers, trees, or bushes that need to be watered, then we can help you out with that.  We haul water to wherever you need it in the Seymour, Texas area.  You can call the shop at 940-888-5629 for pricing and more information.

The Wichita Falls nurseries have not stocked many plants this year and so you may have thought that we wouldn't have our regular stock of great plants for your needs...there is good news because we do have some great plants to offer this year and many of them are drought tolerant.

We also have our display gardens blooming in full force as well so we would love it if you stop by for a visit.

Remember that we also have other items to help with your organic (or not), garden needs.  Along with the garden supplies we offer feed and seed as well as many other services such as landscaping, water garden scaping and more.  If you have need of any of these services you can call the store at 940-888-5629

Projects

It is busy time at Feed and Seed Barn. We have new plants and garden items arriving all the time and we have several projects going on too. I thought I would share some pictures from a couple of our landscape jobs last year. We love doing landscape jobs and meeting the challenges that each project brings.

We can help you with beds that are surrounded by concrete which can cause your bed to be a hot spot and which can leach into the soil causing many plants to not prosper.

We can fill your large planters

and your smaller planters.

We like to offer a variety of textures and colors that will appeal to the eye.

Spring Projects

Springtime has arrived here at Feed and Seed Barn. That means we have new plants arriving weekly. We have a selection of vegetables, strawberries, and flowers. Be sure to check with us each week as we have more plants coming through out the season. I thought I would share one of our spring jobs that we did last year.

This was one of our larger jobs of the year.

We planted lots of perennials that will be gorgeous when they come up this spring.

We planted things closer in the front bed so that the impact would be larger.

We improved the soil in all the planters with plenty of high quality potting soil, fertilizer and we topped that off with a nice layer of cedar mulch.

The planters are watered with soaker hoses.

When using lots of perennials in a bed it will not have as much color and growth the first year because the roots are growing underground.

On the second year, the plants that survive will be much prettier

If it survives and does well, it should be absolutely gorgeous on the 3rd year.

I am looking forward to seeing how well it does this spring. If the spring weather has you ready to get your hands into the dirt be sure to stop by and see our latest arrivals.

Every Garden Needs Bones

Evey garden needs bones. What are bones you ask? The bones of a garden include the hardscape as well as the trees and bushes in the garden.


This is pretty much what our display gardens look like before we get them planted.

There will be some perennials that we keep from year to year as well as a few volunteer annuals.

We like to use rocks as well as vintage metal and wood items to decorate our gardens.

I do not remember if I have shared this with you before or not but there was once a barn that stood between us and the school bus barn. We had a fire that burned it completely down which left a large hole in our garden. We used rebar and wood shipping pallets to create a fence as a backdrop for our beds.

We have found that it is most economical to use things that we already have laying around to decorate our gardens.

Introducing Feed and Seed Barn in Seymour, Texas!

Hi, my name is James and I would like to introduce you to my store: Feed And Seed Barn The pictures in this post are all from the display beds at my store. I spend my time working at the store, out on landscaping jobs, working the display beds, and when I am not working I love to go ride my bicycle. Hope you enjoy. . .
The picture above is the North end of our property. This bed faces South so all the flowers pictured get lots of sunshine.

This is a closeup view of my bed that faces the South. I change the beds often so that there is always something new to see when customers come to look. My beds have been a feature on the Seymour Secret Garden Tour every year since the organization began.

This is another view of the same bed on a different year. It is amazing how one can change the entire look of an area just by changing what is planted.

This is a picture of my beds on the West side of the store. This side gets very hot and lots of sunshine so I plant very hardy plants on this side.

This is another view of the beds facing the South. This part of the building was burned down this last year and so there have been a lot of changes in these beds. I will share pictures of those changes in a future post.

This is a corner of the building that was burned in the fire. I hated losing the building as well as the signs. You will be amazed at how I redid this area.
